A Commitment to Veterans and Victims of Domestic Violence with PTSD

A NEW Approach to Managing PTSD Symptoms

Current PTSD treatments focus on Medicine and Psychotherapy (aka Talk Therapy), or a combination of the two.

Flight to Freedom is based on Exposure Therapy, one of the concepts used in Psychotherapy, which teaches people to manage fears by gradually exposing them, in a safe way, to the trauma they experienced.

If you have experienced physical violence, a therapist can’t recreate that EXACT experience.

However, there is a group who can.

Martial Arts Instructors.

An inherent part of their skillset is to regulate violent physical interactions and teach students to mentally adapt while in Flight or Fight mode.

There are a few problems with this solution.

Martial arts are designed to teach a much larger body of knowledge in a way that takes years, even decades, to master.
Also, material and expertise vary within organizations, styles, and individual instructors.

Flight to Freedom solves those problems.

Flight to Freedom is a short-term program designed on sound principles from Kinesiology and Martial Arts, as well as various other mind/body disciplines. It includes modifications to make it safe and effective for a student that doesn’t have years to gain the fine motor coordination needed to learn these vast bodies of knowledge.
It is NOT a Self Defense System, but has enough resemblance to one, that only a skilled Black Belt can become a certified instructor.

Flight to Freedom is an
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) Training Program.

Our curriculum is patterned in the style of a community college course taught by instructors who not only meet a time, grade, and skills prerequisite, but who take an instructor certification course that is of the same scope as a nationally certified Group Fitness Instructor.

The Program Design and Instructor Training ensure organizational conformity and quality.

Flight to Freedom is a Two-Fold Path

“Flight or Fight” is synonymous with PTSD.
Flight or Fight is a response of the Autonomic Nervous System(ANS), which has two subsystems.
The Sympathetic Nervous System creates the Flight or Fight response, and the Parasympathetic Nervous System regulates the Rest and Digest functions.

Challenge Your Triggers with Training

Not only do we utilize fitness principles and skills derived from Martial Arts to ramp up and modulate the Flight or Fight response, we also employ skills derived from Meditation, Qigong, Pranayama, Tai Chi, and Yoga to regulate the ability to induce the Rest and Digest system.
